We Could Be Safe: Risk Assessment

The purposes of risk assessment are to identify hazards and to document remedial action or mitigating actions for these hazards.
Risk assessment is, as the term implies, a process designed to determine whether the subject under assessment could raise or be impacted by an external event and what reasonable precautions can be taken to limit or negate the effect of this event. Risks will vary depending on the object of the assessment, but at the highest risk end could include risk of personal injury, breach of contract due to late delivery or missing functionality, and at the lower end, missing internal project deadlines due to staff holidays and sickness.
For each risk identified, a coping strategy is developed. This strategy may at best eliminate the risk entirely, but more commonly will mitigate or reduce the impact of the risk should it materialise. The strategy could be to allow more money in the development budget to offset extra cost due to unforeseen complexity, it could be to implement extra controls or protection for end user safety.
Risk assessment is extremely important in commercial activities, as many of the potential hazards will have the possibility of causing severe financial loss or severe damage to reputation, both of which can be fatal to a company trading with a recognised reputation for its name and its products.
A good source for understanding risk assessment and the need to use them is provided at:

We Could Be Inventive: Ideas

I have created a mind map on the internet ( https://bubbl.us/ )
This has allowed me to write down all my ideas for the music video.

I have decided that my theme will be Sporting Heroes and Disability Sport. These are both personal to me because of my love for sport and also despite having Cerebral Palsy, I am a Dressage Rider and Platform Diver. I would like this to be an inspirational video to all who watch it.

Diving - I will be filming some of our GB & Olympic Divers at the Plymouth Life Centre. I shall be following them as they go about their daily training routine. This normal consists of 1 hour in the Dry Dive, exercising and practising dives onto crash mats and into the foam pit. This will be followed by a 1 1/2 hour session in the pool.
If I can manage to obtain permission, I hope to get some underwater footage of the divers. This will allow me to capture a wide range of camera angles which will add to the viewers experience.

Anniversary Games - I shall be going to watch the Anniversary Games in London during the summer. This is the 3rd games of this kind since the Olympics in 2012. It is a three day event which includes top world athletes (track and pool) both able bodied and disabled. I am hoping to especially be able to film Richard Whitehead (blade runner) and Ellie Simmonds (swimmer). I also hope to capture a number of extreme long shots that will help to establish the opening of the music video and give the viewer a sense of location.

Wheelchair Basketball - I shall be visiting the University of St Mark & St John (Marjon, Plymouth) where I hope to film wheelchair basketball players in one of their training sessions.

Horse-Riding - As a dressage rider, I would like to add some riding to my video. I am hoping to film one of the dressage riders from RDA where I ride who competes in Regional competitions.

This links back to my video research which were mostly outdoor and action shots with people doing heroic things.

Music Research: Thank You 'Children In Need'

The music I have chosen for my music video is: Heroes (We Could Be) by Alesso ft. Tove Lo.

I would like to thank Children In Need. In 2015, Children In Need came to the Plymouth Life Centre and it was this song that the Great British Diving Team dived to which inspired me to use for my music video.

I have looked up on YouTube the top 5 covers. They are:

Number 5: RUNAGROUND - Heroes - Alesso (Acoustic Cover Version)

What I like about it: I like the artist and the sound. The camera angles are really good as well.

What I don't like about it: It is an acoustic cover but it I can only hear one instrument and It's not very exciting.

Number 4: Heroes - Alesso ft. Tove Lo (North Sis cover

What I don't like about it: I am not keen on there being 3 singers and I don't like that they are standing in front of a white background. They are also putting their own twist on to the song which I don't like.

Number 3: "Heroes" by Alesso & Tove Lo - Christina Grimmie Cover

What I like about it: As well as singing, Christina is also playing the keyboard/piano. Her voice is really good too. She has put her own twist on the song a bit but I like that as she hasn't over done it - its still like the original song.
This is my 2nd choice of cover.

Number 2: Heroes (We Could Be) - Acoustic Cover by Megan Davies & Landon Austin

What I like about it: They are both really good singers and I that there are 2 guitars playing different parts of the song.
What I don't like about it: I'm not keen on them singing together - they would probably sound a lot better if they both did it on their own. The room that they are playing in seems a bit bare and plain.

Number 1: "Heroes (We Could Be)" - Alesso feat. Tove Lo (cover by The Madison Letter)

What I like about it: I love this cover. It's very upbeat which is what the original song is like. The guy singing has a really good voice and is playing the guitar which is good too. To make the cover the same tempo as the song, they have added a keyboard and some other instruments which I really like and they have stuck to the lyrics and tune of the original song which I love. I also like the fact that the camera moves around and doesn't just stay in one place (on the singer).
This is defiantly my 1st choice of cover and I will probably be using it as they is only cover I have found that is exactly like the cover and sounds really good.

There isn't anything I don't like about this cover.

We Could Be Allowed: Permission

If you want to video people then you need their permission.

For my video, I've decided to take videos of Olympic Divers, Tonia Couch & Sarah Barrow. Even though I know them well and their coach Andy Banks, I still need to send a letter to Andy to ask if this is ok.

This is a letter of permission from my Media and Photography teachers, I will attach this with a letter of my own:

We Could Be Receptive: Audience Survey

I have made a survey on Survey Monkey to see what type of music people like.

Here is the survey:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9H2GK6G

Although primary research is good, the survey will only reach a limited number of people so the results will be inconclusive. Therefore I will need to carry out additional secondary research by using YouGov/Profiles to establish who watches music videos and who is interested in Paralympic sport.

We Could Be Fair: Copyright

Part of the reason I have chosen Alesso - Heroes (we could be) ft. Tove Lo covered by The Madison Letter, is because there is no copyright infringement etc. This means that I don't have to ask Alesso for permission to use his song.

Copyright means that you have done the work and adding copyright means that no-one can use it.

The legal penalties for copyright infringement are:
  1. Infringer pays the actual pound amount of damages and profits.
  2. The law provides a range from £200 to £150,000 for each work infringed.
  3. Infringer pays for all attorneys fees and court costs.
  4. The Court can issue an injunction to stop the infringing acts.
  5. The Court can impound the illegal works.
  6. The infringer can go to jail.

Copyright is the mechanism used to protect an individuals or organisation’s material, identity or “inventions” from being copied and exploited by others.
Copyright is necessary because much time and effort can be expended in the development of a process, or a product and it is reasonable to allow the inventor time and a period of protection to recoup the cost for their time and the development costs.
Copyright is also very important in protecting an image or “brand”. In the case of a company selling goods, this image can be an indication of quality and value. Any copying of products, or infringing on copyright has the ability to inflict severely damage on the originators image with subsequent loss of trade.
Copyright is often “intellectual” property, ideas or designs as well as patents (“registered designs”) and logos and trademarks.
Copyright protection is provided in law. In the UK, this is provided by the Copyright, Design and Patents Act, 1988.
